The start of spring is a month away, but beauty’s abloom at Golden Gate Park on Monday as Grace Sohn, 3, adds a dash of bright energy to a patch of cheerful poppies by the Conservatory of Flowers.

-The lead above is an anecdotal description of a picture, and is used to introduce the weather story about the change in seasons.

It is the middle of my senior year here at this marvelous establishment we know as Washington High School. The class of journalism has so far cause me great woe with my poor performance. I have learned that i must work harder to stay organized and complete my assignments on time. Besides learning that my performance was lacking, I have learned little new things from this semester of journalism. I would like to take more pictures in the second semester and I am likeing my position as an opinions writer more than i had first expected. I expect to learn more about how to organize my time and complete my stories. I would like to get a much better grade this semester, and I know that in order to do that i have to do my work on time, and consistently. Journalism; i think it should be more like amazing fun time that i also spend learning much about the ways of the universe. I just needed more words.

I liked this videocast because i thought it was informative and looked very professional. The kids also seemed very young, yet they did a good job of delivering clear and simple information. They reported on a very broad area of subjects and got a lot of information out.

This infographic is about mortality rates of men in the United States. I think it is designed very interestingly and in a way that hooks people into reading it. The large numbers are what would pull most in i think. I thought it was cool that they made it look like a human skull which ties in nicely with the theme of the infographic. It might be hard to tie in a story about mortality rates in the Hatchet, but i think these figures are always interesting. We could write a story about peoples fears (like shark attacks) and how infrequent they are fatal.

The reporter interviewed Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie of the band Flight of the Conchords, and comedians Demitri Martin and Todd Barry.

“I enjoy going out and not talking to strangers,” he says. “It’s OK if I’m drunk, but if I’m not, it’s just embarrassing.”
The question for this quote was probably regarding how McKenzie feels about Jemaine writing the songs.

“I’ll call one of them to hang out, and the other will show up,” he says.
The question was probably about how Todd Barry feels about working with Jemaine and Bret.

“[Conchords] will either be a cult hit or a regular hit,” he says.
The question was probably about how Demitri Martin feels about how the series will be viewed.

Clement is already tasting success. “Once a waitress recognized me and gave me free cake,” he says. Notes McKenzie, “That was when we really knew we’d made it.”
These two quotes probably came from a question like: how do the two of you feel about finally tasting success?

The lead points out immediately what the subject is: Laws in California and other states requiring mortgage companies to talk to troubled homeowners before foreclosing on them. The who is the mortgage companies, and their interactions with homeowners. When is stated at the front of the lead: (09-23) 19:06 PDT. The where is California and other states, and the why is not explicitly given in the lead but it is clear it will be delivered in the story.

As I embark on my long and treacherous journey through the relm of Journalism 2, i ponder both the triumphs i will live through, and the hardships i will endure. It fills my heart with the utmost joy to know that i will be soon engaged in writing and pursuing the journalist’s experience. I know that my skills are lacking; i suck. I am very unorganized, slow with my work process, scared to interview most, and usually fail to meet my deadlines. I am actully writing this past deadline. I believe that this year will bear great fruit from the labors i will complete, if indeed i complete them. I hope to learn and develop strong organizational skills, and i hope i can become a proficient journalist. If you really want to get into hopes and fears that i have for this class, my greatest hope is for there to be food for the class to enjoy whilst we conversate and allow for our bonds as journalist to blossom. My fear for this class is that i will continue struggleing and fail to meet my deadlines, and subsequently recieve a poor, or possibly failing grade. This keeps me awake at night. I will not let it happen. EVER.
